8. South Carolina
The coronavirus pandemic in South Carolina is more serious than the outbreaks in many other states. New COVID reports have risen by a staggering 999 percent since re-opening. It’s no surprise, though, that South Carolina has received a “critical” rating from Covid Act Now. Infection and positive test rates –1.14 and 16.7 percent, respectively–are high.
Unfortunately, there is an extremely low number of contact tracers and available ICU beds. As of July 13, South Carolina has just under 56,650 cases of COVID, including more than 960 deaths.
