Young adults are now more at risk for catching COVID-19, compared to adolescents and young children.

The study from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) analyzed data from March 1 to December 12, 2020, and discovered that more than 2,871,828 infected patients were 24 years old and younger.

The same study has proven that more than 57.4 percent of cases were found among youngsters between 18 and 24, but the number decreased drastically for young children and teenagers.
Additionally, the study’s findings also suggested that “young adults might contribute more to community transmission than do younger children.”

However, the study has also shown that more children are now at risk of catching COVID-19.

The study’s researchers have also found that the number of young adults and children that contracted COVID-19 has increased dramatically since the start of the pandemic.

“Among children, adolescents, and young adults, weekly incidence (cases per 100,000 persons) increased with age and was highest during the final week of the review period (the week of December 6) among all age groups,” the researchers explained.

But according to The New York Times, the spike could be caused by a dramatic increase in the number of cases in the United States, adding that the increase in the number of cases is “paralleling the virus’s trajectory among older adults in the U.S. population.”
