O-negative might already have COVID-19 antibodies.
Joel Ray, MD, and co-author of the St. Michael’s Hospital study explained that “people with these more resistant blood types may have already developed antibodies that can recognize certain aspects of the novel coronavirus and are therefore better prepared to fight it off.”
“Our next study will specifically look at such antibodies, and whether they explain the protective effect,” Ray continued saying.

I am a 78 yr old white male with O Negative blood type. In June of 2020 my wife, 77 yrs old, contracted the virus and brought it home to me. She was sick with “flu-like” symptoms for about 3 days and then began to improve. She was a victim of a heart attack in May 2017, is about 25 lbs overweight, has arthritis over a large portion of her body but is active as much as can be expected. After I began to feel bad, I began to monitor my temperature. At no time during my sickness did my temperature get over 99.9 degrees. I lost my sense of taste and had a “funky” smell in my nose. The virus lasted over 3 weeks, I lost 45 lbs of weight, I weighed 200 lbs before, and my height is about 5′ 10″ 1/2. So I was not obese in any way. I also contracted pneumonia in my right lung and I really began to think I was going to be one of the ones that did not make it. But our family has a close friend who is a CCU doctor at a hospital in a near-by town, 14 miles away. With his help and expertise I finally pulled out of it. Five months later I still only have about 50% of my normal energy level. During my sickness I made 2 trips to the ER and neither time was I given any meds other than pills for anxiety. They did EKGs, X-rays, and blood work and said “your blood tests look ok, you can go home now”, after being there for 7 hours. Bottom line, I am thankful and blessed to be alive, the medical people play guessing games, and maybe I have “white privilege” with my O negative blood. I am so glad to still be able to hug my family and I appreciate the people who dedicate their lives to helping people.
It is unfortunate he had to suffer so much, but the blessing of having pulled through is great! However, his reference to relating O negative blood to white privilege is inaccurate. O blood historically was first recorded in Africa, by Africans. Whites, evolved both in pigmentation and blood type from the African experience! TJBJ
If you don’t take it, you need to take vitamin D3, Zinc and vitamin c every day. I have heard multiple sources say that people that contracted Covid had low vitamin D3 levels. It helps with your immune system as well as Zinc and vitamin c.
Thank you. I will try that. I heard that if there could be an underlining condition, some should not take the vaccine for a couple years to avoid illness of any kind. I had my knees and hip replaced and I have to take an antibiotic before going to dentist to prevent infections since I’m still healing from so much change in my body. I plan on getting the vaccine once released from my Drs. I certainly don’t want to get sick or die because i take the vaccine and then become ill because my body can’t heal quick enough. The vItamins sound like a great idea.
I’m black. My mother has O negative blood.
There is a large population of people from India who are O negative. They don’t even have the H portion for the O. They are called Bombay. What you say about white privilege with O negative blood makes no sense. You still got COVID. You did not get any privilege. Many people of all blood groups get COVID and recover from it. Many people get COVID but do not display symptoms or the symptoms are mild. You’re one of these people who makes up things as he goes along. People don’t see a reason for something so they just make something up.
Maybe you have the blood type that was shed on Calvary. It has not lost its power to heal.
TRUE!!
Carol…. Blessed Answer! I have wrote it down and am going to print it in large lettering and hang it on my Frig.! Thank-You and God Bless You and Yours !!
What disease did the blood shed at Calvary heal?
Thank you for reminding me that his ancestry line may have survived for centuries and been spread all through our countries. God bless you for being fearless.
What is your point or what did I miss in this conversation? Your wife was only sick for 3 days and has co-morbidities. Is she the one with type o- negative blood type or are you, who are still suffering the after affects of Covid.
What is the blood type of your wife ? Sounds like she did not have it as bed.
Simply stated, other races or ethnic groups have “O negative blood also”!
O-negative blood is only found in 8 percent of the population and mainly among Europeans or European-Americans. Rh-Negative blood makes up only 15 percent of the worldwide population; the other 85% is Rh-positive. From research on the COVID virus it has been found that people with O-negative blood are more resistant to the virus. People with A-type blood are not, and also have worse symptoms. I have A-neg. so I am at greater risk of contracting the virus even though I am Rh-negative. There are African-American people with Rh-Negative blood, but the percentage is very low. It is not known where the Rh-negative blood started or when, but a lot of the Basque population (45%) are Rh-negative. It is thought probably around the northern European area, but not proven.
his story made no sense…you are led to believe O negative is a good thing, then he writes how sick he was and had O negative and his wife, who does not have O negative blood, got better sooner…did not understand his point
My father’s grandmother was Cherokee. My blood type is o-. The virus that I had lasted 3 days, had a temp of 101.1 and was fine after that. I once had flu that was worse than the virus though now I don’t even get the flu and I don’t take the flu shots. I was forced to get the virus shot even though I was completely immune and even though I had a letter stating so from my doctor. I had avoided the shot til two days ago. This is unfair.
I have A- blood, haven’t caught covid19 or received any shot, its not a vaccine. Anyone who received the Polio vaccine NEVER contracted Polio correct that is what a vaccine does.
I was not happy with this information since my blood type is A+. I will now be extra careful even though I have had two vaccinations.
