Back in the day women would give birth at home because they were far away from a hospital, because the midwife of the village or town was the only one within a 50 miles radius or because they simply didn’t have any other choice. Nowadays, it’s considered something of a fad, where celebrities and normal people alike choose to give birth in the privacy of their own homes, rather than go to a hospital.
And, truly, we can’t blame them after all, depending on which hospital you are giving birth at and the complications that can arise, it can end up being a traumatic experience that will hinder the bonding with your child afterward. There are lots of different things going on in a hospital and you never know what may happen, people can be stressed, and in a place where more often than not there’s some sort of a tragedy happening, you are bound to not be comfortable unless you have a lot of money. Not to mention, some of us are scared of hospitals and doctors in general.
Choosing to give birth at home is perfectly normal and okay, but you have to make sure you are doing it in a safe way, with at least one midwife and with people you trust to take care of you and the baby.
