The beautiful falling leaves
It wouldn’t be fall season without the beautiful, orange falling leaves that create stunning scenery. What’s great about all those falling leaves, is that they are known to bring good luck. But if you’re a superstitious person you probably know that already.
According to The Encyclopedia of Superstitions, the more falling leaves you can catch in one hand, so many lucky months you’ll have. As Alison Uttley, children’s author wrote in her memoir A Year in the Country, every leaf you catch is a happy day.
I think we all need a little luck, so let’s enjoy autumn and count falling leaves!
Pumpkin everything
Most people associate fall with pumpkins, and for good reasons. We use pumpkin for Halloween decor, for those delicious pies, lattes, pumpkin scented candles, and many other things. And the best part about it is that it can be found on almost every continent, except Antarctica, of course. The top pumpkin-producing state in the United States is Illinois.
Also, did you know that the pumpkin scent is aphrodisiac? We can all agree that it smells really great and pumpkin food is delicious, but a study made in 1995 by the researchers at the Smell and Taste Treatment and Research Foundation found that the strongest men turn-on was the scent pumpkin pie combined with lavender. This combination of two different scents was proven to increase the penile blood flow by 40 percent.
Additionally, pumpkin spice lattes are the most common fall drinks in the U. S. and they’re indeed very delicious.
More reasons to wish people “Happy Birthday” and “Congrats”
Did you know that fall is the season with the highest birth rates? Chances are you’ll see a lot of newborn pictures on Facebook and Instagram, and you probably have several friends born in the fall to wish “Happy Birthday” to.
Additionally, September is the most common birth month of all twelve. To be more precise, September 9th was the most common birthday for babies born between 1994 and 2014, and September 16th for those born between 1973 and 1999.
Also, according to statistics, fall is the season of engagements and wedding announcements, so prepare yourself to type “Congrats” several times a day.
You can catch birds on their migrations to warmer climates
Fall is the season when many birds migrate to warmer climates to escape cold winter months. Even though each bird has its own path, there are certain places where bird watchers go to see a few flocks enjoying a little stop while migrating south.
According to Kenn Kaufman, Audubon editor, there are several spots where it’s most likely to spot the birds, such as Great Salt Lake, Utah, Cape May, and New Jersey.
The “contrast effect”
If you don’t know what the “contract effect” stands for, it is a cognitive mindset that changes our perception of something by intensifying the differences between them when we compare it to something else.
According to a 2008 study published in Perception, men found women more sexy and attractive in the colder months, compared to the summer months and that’s because of the “contrast effect.”
And the explanation for this is because men tend to see a lot more skin and more women’s body parts during summer, causing them to need fewer stimuli to catch their attention in the cold season when women tend to wear more clothes.
