5. Your eyes need protection too
Even if most people don’t take this measure seriously, protecting your eyes is a very important step in keeping COVID-19 away.
“If you have goggles or a face shield, you should use it,” Fauci said during a July 29 interview with ABC News Chief Medical Correspondent Jennifer Ashton, MD.
Wearing eye protection is “not universally recommended, but if you really want to be complete, you should probably use it if you can,” Fauci added. Just like our nose and mouth, eyes have mucosal surfaces that are more vulnerable to viruses, he said.
6. Avoid flying
Fauci urges people of all ages to avoid flying as much as possible right now as it’s still very risky.
“I’m 79 years old. I am not getting on a plane,” Fauci stated in an interview with The Washington Post. “I have been on flights where I’ve been seated near people who were sneezing and coughing, and then three days later, I’ve got it. So, no chance. […] I’m in a high risk group, and I don’t want to play around.”
According to the CDC, travel increases the risk of getting infected, that’s why it would be better to stay at home if possible. Although on planes air is pretty well circulated and filtered, it’s still concerning that people can’t practice social distancing, and airports are hotspots for coronavirus right now.
