Jamie Lee Curtis had struggled with opioid addiction for more than ten years, as she shared with People in October 2018. And what’s interesting about her experience with drugs, is that no one knew about it.
She had a family history of substance abuse, as her father and brother were also struggling with addiction. Additionally, her half-brother lost his life in 1994 due to a heroin overdose.
She became addicted to opioids after she sufferer an operation in 1989. Since that operation, she struggled for more than a decade with an addiction to painkillers. She mentioned that she first attended a recovery meeting in 1999, and she’s been struggling since then with sobriety.
“I’m breaking the cycle that has basically destroyed the lives of generations in my family,” Curtis added. Until this day, being sober is Curtis’s greatest accomplishment. She considers being sober bigger than her family (husband and two children), bigger than her career, her success, and her failures.
For her, being sober is everything.
