After his divorce from Angelina Jolie in 2019, Brad Pitt felt more comfortable sharing his alcohol problems with the whole world. He also said that his alcohol addiction has resulted from the fame he faced during the 1990s, back when he was very young and didn’t know how to handle everything.
Therefore, he turned to alcohol to solve his problems, or numb himself, at least. His addiction also led to his separation from his ex-wife, Angelina Jolie, but also affected his relationship with his children. Jolie filed for divorce after Pitt’s altercation with their son, Maddox, back when he was drinking heavily.
However, Brad Pitt is now sober and even entered an all-male Alcoholics Anonymous program since his divorce. He said that this program really changed his life and even saved him from destroying it.
“I had taken things as far as I could take it, so I removed my drinking privileges. You had all these men sitting around being open and honest in a way I have never heard. It was this safe space where there was little judgment, and therefore little judgment of yourself. It was actually really freeing just to expose the ugly sides of yourself. There’s great value in that.”
