What are the COVID vaccine’s side effects people need to be aware of?

According to Dr. Teresa Bartlett M.D., senior medical officer at medical claims company Sedgwick, there are two types of vaccine side effects people should expect. Firstly, the most common side effects are usually local, such as swelling, redness, and some lymph node in the vaccinated arm.

Secondly, the other type of side effects is systematic and can affect the whole body, including body aches, chills, and fever, Dr. Teresa Bartlett explained. According to the CDC’s data, the second kind happens mostly after the second dose, and usually in people under 55 years old.

Other systematic side effects include muscle pain, joint pain, headaches, and fatigue. According to Dr. Robert Mordkin M.D., chief medical officer at testing company LetsGetChecked, the good part is that both local and systematic side effects are short-term, which means you shouldn’t experience them more than a day or two. Additionally, it’s important to know that side effects are a good thing and you shouldn’t worry, because it means your immune system is reacting to the vaccine by producing antibodies.
