
19. Dolphins have been trained to be used in wars.
Dolphins are widely known as intelligent, lovely creatures. What is not so well known is that during the Vietnam War and the Cold War, these adorable animals were primarily used by the US and the Soviet Union.
Both countries examined the creatures for their sonar capabilities but also trained them in mines detection, bringing equipment to divers, finding missing equipment, and protecting submarines among other nifty tricks.
20. Playing the accordion was once required for teachers in North Korea.
The accordion is the most common instrument in North Korea, so much so that back in the day, all teachers were required to play it, in order to get their teaching certifications. Since the accordion is portable, comparable to a grand piano, it was thought of as the “people’s instrument” which could be taken outside and played for field workers.
