9. “E” is the most common letter and appears in 11 percent of all English words.
Try to write several sentences— anything you can think of. Now take a minute to check how often each letter in the alphabet appears. Odds are you’ll see a lot of the letter “e.” That’s because, according to Oxford Dictionaries, the widely used vowel appears in around 11 percent of all English words. Although, there have been occasions when there have been no “e.” Ernest Vincent Wright’s 1939 novel ‘Gadsby’ was written as a lipogram, which does not include words that contain the letter E.
10. A dozen bodies were once found in Benjamin Franklin’s basement.
Were you aware of the fact that the police discovered several skeletons in the basement of Benjamin Franklin’s home in London? During a house renovation in 1998, the bones were discovered and confirmed as being from nearly a dozen people including six children.
“The most plausible explanation is not mass murder, but an anatomy school run by Benjamin Franklin’s young friend and protege, William Hewson,” wrote The Guardian. “The resurrection men could deliver bodies stolen from graveyards to the Thames wharf at the bottom of the street, while there was a weekly public execution at the gallows on the other side of the garden wall.”
