What The Most Severe COVID Cases Had in Common, According to CDC Study

Obesity was a factor in more than three-fourths of severe COVID-19 cases.

The new study conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) was published in the CDC’s Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report on March 8. The study analyzed more than 148,494 adults who have tested positive for COVID-19 and have been severely ill. They gathered data from more than 238 hospitals from the United States, between March and December 2020.

71,491 out of the 148,494 patients have been hospitalized and more than 28.3 percent of them were overweight, while 50.2 percent were suffering from obesity. Therefore, the study’s findings indicated that more than 78.5 percent of severely ill patients had this in common: they were either overweight or obese.
