The results from Johnson & Johnson’s phase three trial.

Johnson & Johnson shared with the public the results of its phase three trial on January 29. The company mentioned that its vaccine is “66 percent effective overall at preventing moderate to severe COVID-19, 28 days after vaccination.”

However, the results showed that even though it’s less effective than the other two, the vaccine offers higher efficacy in preventing severe illness. Johnson & Johnson’s vaccine has proven to be “85 percent effective overall in preventing severe disease and demonstrated complete protection against COVID-19 related hospitalization and death as of day 28.”

While the Johnson & Johnson vaccine is 85 percent effective, the ones from Pfizer and Moderna are 95 and 94 percent effective. Even though it’s less effective, that doesn’t mean the Johnson & Johnson vaccine won’t do its job in the fight against COVID-19.

As data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has shown, even the flu vaccine is just 40 to 60 percent effective and it’s still recommended to keep the influenza virus away.
