COVID-19 can become an annual event, just like the flu.

Fauci believes putting an end to the pandemic once and for all would be impossible to achieve in the coming months. However, many experts believe that we should focus more on vaccinating the most vulnerable portions of the population that are considered at risk for hospitalization and even death caused by COVID-19.

This has proven to be very effective until now, so we should continue to do it. COVID-19 could become an annual occurrence similar to the common cold or the flu. The good news, however, is that it might get to a point where it will only affect the young and healthy, so we’ll manage to avoid overwhelming the hospital system.

According to Carl Bergstrom, an evolutionary biologist at the University of Washington in Seattle, “What we want to do at the very least is get to a point where we have just really sporadic little flare-ups.”

“That would be a very sensible target in this country where we have an excellent vaccine and the ability to deliver it,” he added.
