But even though herd immunity might be impossible to achieve, Fauci also mentioned during a virtual event hosted by the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health on April 26 that vaccination could contribute to lowering hospitalization and death rates.
Fauci is very optimistic about the course of the pandemic, adding that “literally within a few weeks, we’re going to start to see a turning around of the dynamics.”
As he explained, we shouldn’t wait to achieve herd immunity, because it might take a while until we get there. Even so, we’re still very optimistic that the number of daily infections, hospitalizations, and COVID-19 deaths will continue to decrease, Fauci added.
