Rachel Levine, Pennsylvania’s Secretary of Health, MD, has confirmed in a statement that an individual from Dauphin County has been identified with the new COVID strain from the U.K. after traveling internationally.

Rachel Levine said in a statement on January 7 that they’ve been prepared for the new strain to make its way to Pennsylvania, so they started sending samples for genetic sequencing every two weeks to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

11. Georgia

As data from Georgia’s Department of Public Health (DPH) has shown, the first B.1.1.7 patient in the state was identified on January 5. The patient is an 18-year-old man that hasn’t traveled anywhere recently.

As DPH Commissioner Kathleen E. Toomey, MD, said in a statement, “The emergence of this variant in our state should be a wake-up call for all Georgians.” Even with a vaccine in sight, it’s still important to implement all the safety measures meant to keep us safe, including wearing a face mask, social distancing, and proper hand hygiene.

12. New York

The first patient infected with the new COVID-19 strain from the U.K. has been identified on January 4, according to New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo. The patient is a man from upstate who worked for N. Fox Jewelers in Saratoga Springs.

A week later, 12 people have been confirmed to have the new coronavirus strain in the state, as NBC New York has reported. Two of the cases are New York City residents, two were related to the jewelry store and there is not enough information about the other 6 cases and where they’re from.
