The New COVID-19 Strain Is Now Present in These 15 States

4. Wisconsin

A statement from the Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) has confirmed that Wisconsin is also one of the states that have identified the first patient infected with B.1.1.7 on January 13.

According to DHS, the state has managed to identify the new variant thanks to ongoing surveillance and genome sequencing, but the state refused to reveal how many people infected with the news strain they have found in Wisconsin or where it has been located, as data from the Journal Times has shown. But data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has shown that only one case has been identified in the state so far.

5. Maryland

Two Maryland residents have been confirmed to have the new COVID-19 strain on January 12, according to Gov. Larry Hogan. A married couple living in Anne Arundel County has tested positive to the new variant after one of the spouses has traveled internationally in December, Hogan has added.

6. Indiana

According to the state’s department, Indiana has confirmed its first new strain case on January 11. As State Health Commissioner Kris Box, MD, has mentioned in a statement, “It’s common for viruses to mutate, and we are seeing that occur with COVID-19.”

As the new COVID-19 U.K. strain is more contagious than the dominant one, Kris Box urges people to prioritize their safety more than ever, wear face masks, implementing social distancing measured, avoiding crowded places, maintaining good hand hygiene, and very importantly, getting vaccinated.
