Coco Chanel
It seems almost unfathomable that anyone associated with high fashion and glamour had a childhood of modest origins, but that is the case for Coco Chanel, the famous designer. “Coco” Chanel was born Gabrielle Bonheur.
She found herself on the foster system equivalent after her mother passed away when she was just 12 years old. It was the late 1800s when her father sent Chanel and her sisters to an orphanage that was maintained by Mary’s Sacred Heart Congregation. Even though she was never adopted, it was here that she learned to sew, paving the way for success in fashion.
