1. Moundsville Penitentiary, West Virginia
Moundsville Penitentiary used to be a prison in West Virginia that operated from 1876 to 1995. This place was the ‘home’ to thousands of criminals for over a century and one of the most violent correctional facilities in the United States at that time.
The prisoners were forced to live their lives in crowded quarters, many of them being killed by hanging or electric chairs, while others were murdered by other inmates. The penitentiary was shut down completely in 1995, but some people still believe it is hunted by the tortured spirits of hundreds of prisoners that were killed there.
2. Queen Anne Hotel, San Francisco, California
The Victorian hotel in San Francisco used to be an etiquette school for girls when it was built in 1890. Even today, the 48-room hotel is believed to be haunted by the ghost of Miss Mary Lake, the school’s headmistress.
Guests who stayed in the hotel, especially in room 410 where was Lake’s former office, talked about seeing a lot of unusual things, such as their clothes being unpacked without them doing it, or the blankets being closely tucked around the bed. This ghost knows everything about etiquette rules, as you can see.
