13. ”David and Goliath”
I know I have mentioned before a mural made by Michelangelo, but here is another one just as interesting as the one before. This painting was made again for the Sistine Chapel and it integrates David defeating a giant Goliath.
This wouldn’t be one of Michelangelo’s paintings if he wasn’t hiding some details in this particular scene. First of all, he put Davis intentionally in that position, in the shape of the letter ”gimel” which means “strength” in the mythical Kabbalah culture.
Secondly, the letter also refers to being rewarded and punished, a theory that does perfectly with the biblical underdog story. Art critics over the world and many researchers interested in Michelangelo’s life learned that he picked up his comprehension about Judaism while he visited the court of Lorenzo de Medici in Florence.
The purpose of the visit was actually in the interest of work, painting the entire Sistine Chapel built as the resemblance of the Holy Temple from Jerusalem. He intentionally put those hidden symbols there because he wanted them to be decoded one day.
