3. ”The Arnolfini Portrait”
The thing about this works of art is that it seems simple at first glance. The 1434 oil painting made by Jan van Eyck’s watched at a first glance, looks like a family portrait of Giovanni di Nicolao Arnolfini and his wife.
Those who took the time to get a closer look at the picture saw that in the mirror positioned in the center of the room reveals two people entering the room. One is believed to be the author itself. There is also an inscription written in Latin on the wall above that mirror, which was later translated in ”Jan van Eyck was here. 1434.”
