Linonophobia
A phobia of an object that is seemingly innocent to most observers can actually be rationalized when thinking about what can be done with said object. That is the case with linonophobia, the fear of strings. While the string itself poses no threat, the fact it can be used to tie you up to subdue you is where the fear enters the equation.
In extreme cases it is tied (pardon the pun) to a previous experience when the sufferer had been tied up themselves, especially when it is associated with some sort of childhood punishment. Others believe it could stem from being bombarded by imagery in movies and television where characters were captured, robbed or kidnapped.
