As Jeffrey Zients has explained, Joe Biden is choosing to wear a mask inside because it lines up with the current CDC guidance.
Jake Tapper, State of the Union’s host, showed a video with our president where he said that it’s still important to wear a mask indoors. Tapper also asked Zients if wearing a mask indoors is necessary, as long as everyone in the room is fully vaccinated.
As Zients has responded, a recent guideline change made by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) suggests that fully vaccinated individuals are allowed to gather in small groups indoor with their family and friends without having to wear a mask.
The host was curious to find out why president Joe Biden still wears a mask in a room with fully vaccinated journalists if the CDC’s guidelines do not require wearing one.
As the White House’s COVID-19 Response Coordinator explained, Joe Biden wishes to continue to follow the CDC guidance.
“It’s just a matter of a few weeks ago when all states made vaccines eligible for all Americans,” he added. He also mentioned that there are a lot of people that are still waiting to get their second vaccine dose and many others that are not yet vaccinated at all.
