Phil Collins – “In The Air Tonight”
“In The Air Tonight” is not a song about war, even so, it was banned across radio stations in 1991 for war-related reasons. The song was directed by Phil Collins’ first wife, and was removed from radio stations two times, once after once the Gulf War, but also in 2011 after the World Trade Center terrorist attack.
As Phil Collins has said: “The lyrics you hear for ‘In the Air Tonight,’ I just sang. I opened my mouth and they came out. I never wrote anything down and then afterward, I listened to it and wrote them down.”
Therefore, “In The Air Tonight” is not a song about war, so it was banned for the wrong reasons.
