Maryland
Maryland also brought back the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, as the Maryland Department of Health (MDH) mentioned in a statement on April 24. According to Jinlene Chan, MD, MDH’s deputy secretary for public health services, it’s important that people understand how important the vaccines are right now in putting an end to the coronavirus pandemic.
Additionally, Chan added that vaccines can prevent transmission, hospitalization, and COVID-19 deaths. As more and more people get vaccinated in Maryland, we’ll prevent transmission and new variants from emerging, he added.
Massachusetts
As Kate Reilly, a spokeswoman for the Massachusetts COVID-19 Response Command Center, wrote in an email to The Boston Globe on April 23, the state’s Department of Public Health informed all providers to start reusing the Jenssen vaccine once again.
“The federal government had recommended the pause out of an abundance of caution due to an extremely rare condition reported in a small number of individuals nationwide, and the administration appreciates their careful review of this matter.”
